Chocolate Banana Bread

This recipe has been on my “to make list” for a really long time now. I just have never had a chance to make it, purely for the fact that we really can’t keep bananas around here. I have a little monkey or two and they gobble up bananas like it’s nobody’s business. Seriously. I actually had to use not overly ripened bananas for this because we didn’t have any. I was not happy  about this.

So this recipe is super easy to whip up. Like uber easy. I’d say even easier than making real banana bread. Also, more difficult to sit through the waiting process of it baking because it has chocolate in it.

Onto the making of the chocolate banana bread business.

Mix up all the dry ingredients in a bowl.

Mash up some naners.

Toss in the rest of your ingredients including some delicious chocolate chips.

Put it in a loaf pan. I gots a new loaf pan! Actually I  got a whole new set of cookware. And yes, it is Pioneer Woman cookware and I love it!

Into the oven you get,

See, I told you it was super easy, and you didn’t even need to use your mixer!

Yummers. It’s both scrumptious and healthy. It’s healthy because it’s got naners in it and because I said so. 😉

Now it’s your turn to make it!

Chocolate Banana Bread

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 stick butter, melted and cooled
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed well
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Mix together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Stir the mashed bananas, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla. Carefully fold the banana mixture into the dry ingredients until just combined. Mix in the chocolate chips.

Pour into a greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 55 to 65 minutes until the bread has risen and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

To freeze: Cool completely. Slice and wrap in plastic wrap and foil or in a ziptop bag. Store in the freezer.

To serve: Pull out desired number of slices. Thaw at room temperature for 30 minutes to an hour. Or, warm in the microwave.

  1. This does look like a delicious bread to make! I love how simple it sounds to make too. I have started making more homemade bread lately and it’s so utterly worth it to have fresh baked bread from home.
