Sorry I’ve been a little M.I.A. lately, there’s been a lot going on in the Newman household with people getting sick, my baby cutting some teeth and trying to plan my big boy’s birthday.
So since we just moved last November to a new town and don’t know many people here that would be his age we decided just to invite family over for lunch. I really wanted to have a themed party for him because I had an awesome idea for his cake, but with the lack of guests that would be attending I didn’t want to go overboard with the cake. So I made a modified version of what I wanted to do.
My son loves anything and everything that has to do with Legos, kinda like his daddy and his uncles. We are lucky that we live pretty close to the Mall of America with a huge Lego store, or as we like to call it, “ Lego Land”. The modified version of the cake I wanted to do has to do with his love of Legos.
I got a cake pan for Christmas this past year that I thought would work perfectly for his cake. The pan allows you to make letters and numbers with it.
Pan is shown in the lower left corner is what it looks like.
So this is what I did with my pan.
I arranged the blocks in a shape of an “L”, in case you couldn’t figure it out.
Depending on what letter or number you want to you use you’re going to have to play around with how much batter you need to fill the pan. The pan instructions say that you should fill the pan 2/3 full, which I used a whole box of cake mix for my cake and probably should have made some cupcakes with the extra batter after filling the pan to the recommended amount.
I hope you are figuring out what type of cake this is.
This is the part where I pretty much screwed up the rest of the cake. I should have “glued” the Oreos on the cake first instead of frosting and then trying to stick them on there.
And the finished product!!
And the excited, lucky boy.
